How the Writing Began : ========================================================================= Episode 16: Krishna’s Peace Mission : Duryodhana made a desperate bid at the end to prove that he had discovered the  Pandavas before the thirteen years were completed, but it was futile; the elders Bhishma  and Drona confirmed that the Pandavas had remained incognito till the very last day. The Pandavas then went to Upaplavya where Bhagavan Krishna and Balarama were.  All of them had a good discussion together, and it was decided to send an emissary to King  Dhritarashtra. They all agreed that Drupada’s emissary, a Brahmana, would be the right  person. The message was plain and simple: “Dhritarashtra, the 13 years are over. Give the  country back to the Pandavas. The emissary was refused point blank to be given anything. The Pandavas learnt  bitterly that a quiet enemy can be more danger

========================================================================= Sunday, April 30, 2023. 07:30. Chapter 5: Life as a Yajna or Sacrifice-3. ========================================================================= This again brings us to the point of the cosmological scheme. We can know, to some extent, what we are, by placing ourselves in the cosmological scheme, and we do not require instruction of any kind in this context, because the moment we know how we have come, we can also know where we are sitting. Our duties become explicit and perspicacious the moment we know our condition and the atmosphere in which we are living. The control of one's self – sense-restraint, self-control – is the restraint of consciousness, finally; it has little to do with our physical limbs. It is not tightening the legs, plugging the ears or closing the eyes physically speaking, because our joys and sorrows are the outcome of a movement of a consciousness in a particular way. Thoughts are jo

How the Writing Began : ========================================================================= Episode 15: The Thirteenth Year Incognito  With a month remaining before the thirteenth year was to begin, the Pandavas had  begun to think of where to hide. Where would an elephant hide in a small hut? All the  Pandavas and Draupadi herself were superhumans – how were they going to remain  incognito? One day the Pandavas were very thirsty. Nakula climbed a tree to spy some water.  He went there to drink. A voice from the sky told him to answer his questions before  drinking. Nakula ignored it and drank. He dropped dead. One after the other the Pandavas  met the same fate, until it was Yudhishthira’s turn. He humbly obeyed the voice and  answered all the questions. The voice then revealed its identity. “I am Yama Dharmaraj. I  was testing your humility. You need to be very humble if yo

Chapter 5: Life as a Yajna or Sacrifice-2. ======================================================================= It is also not easy to understand what this higher Self means; nor can we know what the lower self is. Though we may repeat these words again and again, and to some extent know their literal meanings, their practical suggestiveness is hard for the mind to grasp. The higher Self is not a spatially located, ascending series, but a more intensely inclusive and pervasive nature of our own self – something like the superiority of the waking consciousness over the dream consciousness. The waking mind is not kept over the dreaming mind, as one thing kept over another thing. The superiority, the transcendence of one thing over the other, or one thing being higher than the other, should not and does not suggest a spatial distance, but a logical superiority which is to be distingu

========================================================================= Sunday, April 23,  2023. 07:30. Chapter 8: The Yoga of Action -5. ========================================================================= Religions tell us that we should worship gods, and that the gods will bless us. This blessing is nothing but the union of our lower consciousness with the higher, transcendent one, which includes our present finitude as well as its finite environment. Here is the philosophical significance behind the doctrine of yajna propounded in a few verses of the Third Chapter of the Bhagavadgita. This action, this Yoga of the performance of duty takes off the edge of sorrow in one's life, because here one does action as a dedication rather than as a means to an ulterior end. Again, here, we are brought face to face with an understanding of the nature of the fruits of action. There is no such thing as fruit of action in the sense we conceive it. If action is selfishly performed, the
