Gita : Ch-1. Slo-7.

Srimad Bhagavad-Gita :

Chapter-1. ( Arjuna-vishadha-yogam )

Slokam-7. ( O best of the twice born brahmanas, please note those who are especially qualified amongst us to lead my army, for your information I am naming them. )

Asmakam    tu   visishta    ye    tan    nibhodha   dvijottama,

Nayaka   mama   sainyasya    Samjnartham   tan    brveemi    te.

Asmakam    =    Let, for us,

Mama   sainyasya    =    In my army,

Ye   nayakah    =    All those  chiefs,

Visishta,   tan    =     exemplary, of  them,

Samjnartham    te    brveemi     =     To let you know I  am talking,

Vijottama!   tan   nibhodha     =     Hey holy brapmana,  hear me about them.

Here in this slokam,  Duryodhana addresses Dronacharya, "Dvijottama"  ( Holy Brapmana), and introduces the senior chiefs of his army to him.

Some blow whistle while walking in darkness to discard fear. So Duryodhana because of guilty conscious, lost his mental stability. Looking at strength of great warriors on the enemy   formations, he is restless and has no peace of mind.He wants some help and encouragement from his troops. Hence he approached the Guru Dronacharya. But Acharya is not talking.

Due to this Duryodhana started calling the names of fighters on his side. Duryodhana has no confidence in Dronacharya, for the following reasons:

1. Drona is a brapmana by birth, then naturally soft in dealings.
2. Drona's sishyas are on the enemy side also with them he has love and favourable attitude.
3. Duryodhan's durbuddhi is wandering on possibilities, due to his doubtful mind.

With fear of war and doubts about the loyalty of his own side, he becomes weak.

O best of the brahmanas, for your information, let me tell you about the captains who are especially qualified to lead my military force.

It could be postulated that if Duryodhana truly believes that the army of the Pandavas is invincible then why is he so persistent to fight with them, rather he should make peace and agree to a truce. Even possessing a doubt in his mind Duryodhana dauntlessly states to the contrary. With the use of particle tu inferring contrariness he is affirming his superiority over the Pandava army due to the fact that Drona the instructor of the leaders of both armies in the art of archery and the master of the science of weaponry is in his army fighting against the Pandavas, so under his protection how can their be any question of their army being invincible. You may now hear about the excellence of our warriors, exalted in knowledge, valorous, who have our fullest confidence as they are fighting for us of their own free will. I shall name for you those excellent warriors so you will know who they are and so that you will understand our position. The word dvijottama meaning best of the twice born, Brahmans, this being stated indicates a concealed meaning implying that if Dronacaraya will not fight then he is merely a Brahman who is only interested in eating the fine food served at the palace of Duryodhana.

Duryodhana is informing his preceptor Dronacarya, reminding him for his information that he should also know and be fully aware of all the leaders and commanders of the Kaurava army.

To be continued ....
