Swami Krishnananda. (Spoken on April 28, 1985) ======================================================================================  when biological and psychophysical instincts shackle the perception of beauty, the capacity to perceive beauty within the framework of the body, it charges forth in the direction of another physical object, imprisoning beauty in that object only, while it is pervading everywhere. Plato, the great master of Greece, wrote several works on love and beauty. He says that in the beginning a person is attracted to an object which is beautiful. We are attracted to objects which are beautiful wherein beauty is a quality of the object, and when we love a beautiful object we do not know whether we are loving the object or the beauty. The two are mixed up. Are we at...

============================================================================= Sunday 15, June 2025, 08:00. Article  Scriptures Spiritual Evolution According to the Bhagavadgita: 7.  Sami Krishnananda (Spoken on February 24th, 1973) =============================================================================== Spirituality is different from all this. We cannot expect God to obey our command. We cannot and should not say, “God, do this.” Who are we to make God do certain things? We can only pray for the grace of God, whatever the form be in which it comes. We should not order God: “Let my business increase.” What is this sort of prayer, as if we know what ought to be good, what ought to be proper, as if we are omniscient? This is the present type of interpretation of godliness in spirituality, which has become a trade these days, and a mockery, a joke, a humorous activity of people like any other form of business. It is good for nothing. It is worse than anything. We are...

Chapter 1: The Vedas The Vedas as Fountainhead of Development Chapter 2: The Upanishads: The Period of Transition: Swami Krishnananda. =================================================================================================== The Vedas as Fountainhead of Development: The Vedas may be regarded as the source and fountain to which the later developments of thought can be traced. The bold speculative trend and philosophic flights of the Vedas culminated in the Upanishads and the system of the Vedanta. Their descriptions of religious ecstasy in divine contemplations inspired the formulation of the school of Yoga which was codified in the aphorisms of Patanjali. Their visions of the creation of the universe helped the rise of the Sankhya doctrine which ...

================================================================================ Tuesday 10, June 2025, 07:00. Shrimad Bhagavad Gita The Tree of Life: 2.5. Discourse 2: The Search for Wholeness - 6. Swami Krishnananda.  ================================================================================ The whole secret of the success in life seems to be in the knowledge of the presence of something which is behind the varieties of the world experience, and not in the foolhardy pursuit of our intention to eat the fruits which the tree of life yields. The various experiences of pleasure, satisfaction, and grasping by the senses are the bondages of the individual. That is the bird. Every one of us is this bird. Ishvara and jiva, God and the individual, are both seated on the same tree. This tree is this body, our family, our community, our nation; this tree is the whole of mankind, the whole universe. All these are but the same tree manifesting itself in various degrees of express...

The Philosophy of the Bhagavadgita- 3-2. Swami Krishnananda.

==================================================================================== Monday 09, June 2025, 07:10. Shrimad Bhagavad Gita The Philosophy of the Bhagavadgita- 3-2.   Chapter 3: The Spirit of True Renunciation - 2. Swami Krishnananda. ==================================================================================== The Bhagavadgita is principally a spiritual message, spiritual in the true sense of the term. We have to clear our minds of the usual notions of spirituality and religion. When we take to such textbooks of Yoga as the Bhagavadgita, we have, first of all, to recondition our minds and make ourselves prepared for the reception of this impersonal teaching. We are personal, and the teaching is impersonal, manifest in various stages. Ultimately, it will become totally impersonal, into which the personalities vanish altogether, as if they had never been at any time. But we are hardboiled individuals, our personality is as realistic to us as flint, and...
