Article Scriptures Spiritual Evolution According to the Bhagavadgita - 6.  Swami Krishnananda (Spoken on February 24th, 1973) Post-6. ==================================================================================================== Desire is a blind groping; it is not a clear perception of things, yet it gives an indication that something is wrong with us. When we open our eyes to the meaning behind these desires and urges, we are said to be endowed with viveka or understanding, discrimination. This is the first prerequisite of spiritual enlightenment. Viveka, vairagya and shad-sampat – this understanding of the higher purpose of life and an automatic detachment from the lower instincts, together with self-control, constitute the base sadhana for spiritual life. This itself is not sufficient. These qualifications, viveka, vairagya, shad-sampat, etc....

==================================================================================================== Friday 26, December 2025, 20:00. Article Scriptures The Language of the Bhagavadgita: 6.  Swami Krishnananda (Gita Jayanti Message spoken on December 26, 1982) ===================================================================================================== The culture of Bharatavarsha does not recognise any object as being purely material, and more so is the case with divine embodiments such as the scriptures. The Veda, the Upanishad, the Bhagavadgita are sacred. The Veda mantras are not some printed characters on pieces of paper, though when we lift the Veda and carry it from one place to another we seem to be carrying only paper and ink. The Veda is not paper and ink. It is something more than what we can touch with our hand or feel as a weight thereof. It is a power, it is a force, it is a vibration, it is an energy, it is a solution, it is a succour, it is divinity t...

Article Scriptures The Three Types of Discipline of the Bhagavadgita: 5.  Swami Krishnananda. (Spoken on September 18th, 1974) Post-5. =================================================================================================== The Bhagavadgita takes us into a vaster realm of a wider cosmos, I should say, of which you are a citizen because you are ruled by the government of the universe. Just as you have a constitution for your own country, there is a constitution for the entire universe, according to which every leaf moves, and every wisp of wind blows. Nothing can happen in this world unless it is ordained and permitted by the constitution of the setup of the whole cosmos, of which you are an integral part. You cannot isolate yourself from that. So self-discipline, according to the Bhagavadgita, does not merely mean individual bodily, psych...

Article Scriptures Stabilising the Mind in God: The Twelfth Chapter of the - Bhagavadgita: 5. Swami Krishnananda (Spoken on June 26, 1983) Post-5. ==================================================================================================== The whole universe is active in a uniform manner, as our whole body is active in a uniform way. If any part of our body – a finger, a nose or an ear – is operating, it is because of the will of the total body. Otherwise, it cannot work. Thus, if any one of you, any person, you or I, appear to be doing something, it is because of the will of the centre of the cosmos. Therefore, nobody is doing anything, and hence the fruits of actions need not be credited to the account of any particular individual, because the individual has done nothing. All the fruits go to that source from where the will to act has o...
